The Sock Hop — Gymnasium Dance, 1958

An 8-second innocent-electric teen-movie homage, 16:9. A high school gym transformed for the 1958 sock hop — crepe paper, a live band, teenagers in poodle skirts and letter jackets dancing the stroll. 0-3s: the energetic weave opens on the dance floor — crepe paper streamers, the live band on the stage, teenagers in poodle skirts and letter jackets dancing the stroll in lines. The principal patrols the punch bowl, arms crossed, missing nothing. 3-6s: the floor heats up — couples spin, poodle skirts flaring wide; a boy's slicked hair comes undone mid-spin and he smooths it without missing a step, his partner laughing. The band leans into the chorus, the sax player stepping forward; the mirror ball throws sparks across the gym's rafters. 6-8s: the last dance — a slow song brings the couples together under the mirror ball, the gym going soft and golden. The camera circles slowly: swaying pairs, the principal finally smiling, the crepe paper drifting — youth in bobby socks, held in the light. Craft: the teenagers in poodle skirts and letter jackets; the live band; the principal; the punch bowl; the mirror ball and crepe paper. Camera: energetic dance-floor weaving, then slow romantic circling for the last dance. Lighting: gym fluorescents warmed by colored spots, mirror-ball sparkle, film grain. Mood: innocent and electric — youth in bobby socks. Style: 1950s teen-movie homage, authentic dance detail, 8 seconds, 16:9.
