River Crossing Standoff — Waist-Deep Gun Duel

Tragic western short, 9 seconds, 16:9. Dawn on a rushing frontier river: mist rising off the water, cottonwoods dripping, the current tugging at their legs. 0-3 seconds: the slow lateral dolly at water level through the mist — two brothers standing waist-deep twenty feet apart: the elder in a Union greatcoat, the younger in buckskins, revolvers half-raised, water swirling around their legs; neither speaks, the river loud between them. 3-6 seconds: the moment — their eyes meeting across the water, the elder's hand tightening, the younger's jaw setting; they fire as one, the twin muzzle flashes blooming in the mist, the sound rolling off the cottonwoods. 6-9 seconds: the fall — the younger spins and falls into the current in slow motion, the water taking him, his hat floating; the elder stands alone in the river, gun lowering, the mist closing around him as the current carries his brother away. The current tugs at the younger brother's coat; the elder's greatcoat darkens with spray, and a heron abandons the far bank; the river keeps its counsel, rushing on past both men as if they had never stood there. Craft: rushing river with mist, cottonwoods, period greatcoat and buckskins, revolvers. Camera: slow lateral dolly at water level, slow-motion fall. Lighting: cold blue dawn, mist glowing, water silver. Atmosphere: tragic, inevitable, mournful. Style: elegiac western, 35mm, water detail, desaturated blue grade, fine grain, 24fps.
