The Locked Pantry — 80s VHS Haunting

Authentic 1985 VHS horror short, 8 seconds, 4:3. A father films his kitchen in period home-video style: tracking lines, date stamp, oversaturated colors, his wife narrating off-camera. 0-2 seconds: the handheld frame wobbles across the kitchen as the wife explains the pantry door is locked from the inside, has been for a week; the doorknob is still, the frame slightly crooked. 2-5 seconds: the father presses the lens to the keyhole, the frame going dark then resolving; through it the camera catches shelves being stocked in the dim pantry, jars sliding into place on their own, cans rotating to face forward, moved by nothing visible; then a small hand, grey and wrong-jointed, reaches up into frame, places a jar of preserves on the shelf with terrible care, and withdraws. 5-8 seconds: the wife's narration falters into a frightened silence; the doorknob rattles violently from the inside, then stops dead; through the keyhole, every jar on the shelves turns at once to face the viewer, labels staring out like watching eyes in the dark. Craft: the kitchen is 1980s with wood cabinets and a white fridge; the pantry door is white with a brass knob; the jars are preserves with handwritten labels; the hand is grey and wrong-jointed. Camera: handheld family-video framing, the keyhole shot, period wobble. Lighting: harsh kitchen fluorescents with VHS color bleed. Atmosphere: domestic dread invaded. Style: period-accurate VHS artifacts, handheld family-video framing, diegetic dialogue feel, 29.97fps.
